Steph Curry hobbled, briefly leaves Warriors-Nuggets first quarter

Steph hobbled, briefly leaves Warriors-Nuggets first quarter originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Steph Curry’s first quarter in front of Warriors fans at Chase Center this season featured a brief hiatus and some labored movement.

Curry, who typically plays the entirety of the first quarter, substituted out just 2:37 into Golden State’s game Friday against the Denver Nuggets. The Warriors star signaled to the bench that he needed a substitution after landing awkwardly on his right foot while passing out of a double team.

The 33-year-old then returned to the locker room, but he didn’t miss much time. Curry checked back into the game with 4:33 remaining in the first quarter, but he appeared hobbled later in the frame with his right foot once again in discomfort. He attempted just one shot in the first quarter, missing an off-balance 3-pointer.

The two-time NBA MVP addressed fans prior to Friday’s game, the first at Chase Center with fans in attendance. The Warriors hosted 2,000 fans — or 10 percent of Chase Center’s capacity — Friday, and Golden State can have as much as 35 percent of capacity under California’s updated COVID-19 rules.

“All we gotta say is it’s great to see you guys in the stands,” Curry said from center court. “We miss your energy, we miss your passion and thank you for your patience and sticking with us through this unprecedented situation. It’s great to see y’all back.”

Even though Warriors fans didn’t see Curry play every minute in the first quarter, they surely would say the same about him.
