Shaq, Wade gush over Steph as his hot streak continues originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Shaquille O’Neal preached the gospel of Steph Curry on Tuesday, telling the congregation watching “Inside the NBA” that he — like many in the audience — was a late convert.
“When I first started watching him play, I used to hate it,” O’Neal said Tuesday, reiterating that Curry is his favorite player to watch. “I used to be at home like, ‘Oh, he’s not gonna make that,’ and he’d make it. Every time I’d say he wasn’t gonna make it, he made it.
“And then when they started winning championships, me and Charles [Barkley] — we’re old school. We’d be like, ‘You’re not gonna win championships shooting 3s.’ But when they shut us all up and kept winning rings, he definitely got my respect. But he’s still doing the same thing, and I’ve never seen a guy play like that.”
Curry once again impressed O’Neal on Tuesday, scoring 32 points (on 11-of-20 shooting and 4-of-10 on 3-pointers) in the Warriors’ blowout win over the San Antonio Spurs. The two-time NBA MVP even threw in a Michael Jordan-esque layup for good measure.
In his last five games, Curry has scored at least 30 points four times. He’s averaging 29.6 per game this season, to go with 5.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds and a 48.7/42.9/92.9 percent split on field goals, 3-pointers and free throws.

Curry is second only to Bradley Beal in scoring average, and he’s playing well enough to make other former NBA players see the light. You can also count Dwyane Wade among the believers.
“He’s playing at an MVP level, no question about it,” Wade said on “Inside The NBA.” “This guy, he’s my favorite player to watch play the game of basketball now. I’m jumping on the Shaq bandwagon. He’s my favorite player to watch.”
